Organic Movement Needs Grass Root Support! ( Because it certainly isn't getting any help from the government!)

Organic farmers battle to stay in business even with increased consumer demand, due to a market that undercuts prices with subsidized farming practices.  And to make matters worse, the government is actually sabotaging support for organic farms by underhandedly placing corporate interests on boards that oversee policy making!

Let's stop the madness!  Support your organic farmers and send a strong message to your senators and congressmen that these practices are intolerable!

We the people, for the people!

Genetically Modified = Liver and Kidney Damage

Picture_7

(NaturalNews) A report published in the International Journal of Microbiology has verified once again that Monsanto's genetically modified (GM) crops are causing severe health problems. A legal challenge issued against Monsanto forced the multi-national agriculture giant to release raw data revealing that animals fed its patented GM corn suffered liver and kidney damage within just three months.

Adding to the mounting evidence that GM crops are dangerous all around, this information provides a damning indictment against Monsanto which continually insists that its GM products are safe. Not only are GM crops proving disastrous for the environment, but study after study, including those conducted by Monsanto itself, is showing that GM foods are detrimental to health.

Monsanto's data indicated that the company had conducted tests on three varieties of its GM corn, two of which contain the dangerous Bt protein, and one designed specifically to resist Monsanto's Roundup herbicide. All three are widely grown in the United States while only one is currently grown in Europe.

Dr. Gilles-Eric Seralini, a French researcher from the University of Caen, was tasked with examining the data and providing a review. While stopping short of declaring GM crops to be toxic, he did emphasize that chronic negative effects were apparent and that there were "statistically significant" indications of kidney and liver damage.
The specific effects observed in test rats included a buildup of hormones in the blood, indicating that their liver and kidneys were not functioning properly. One variety of the corn led to elevated blood sugar levels and increased triglyceride levels when administered to female rats.

Dr. Seralini concluded that, because GM crops are foreign substances that have never been a part of a normal diet, there is no telling what the long-term effects of consumption will be on humans. In animals, significant disruption of normal bodily function has been observed even in the short term.

Genetically manipulated food crops are not fit for human consumption and should not be classified as food. No legitimate study has ever proven them to be safe or nutritious. The burden of proof is on the producers of such crops to verify their safety and, to date, all data has revealed that they are unsafe. Claims that GM foods will end world hunger are baseless, propagated only by those that have a financial interest in converting the world's food supply to their own patented varieties in order to control it.

Wake Up America, You Kin Do It!

Picture_3

For the third time in 2 weeks I have witnessed a mother pushing a small child or baby in a stroller  while chugging a giant-sized Dunkin' Donut's iced latte.  I have to wonder if it is challenging to be patient with your youngster after consuming a mega dose of caffeine and sugar?  Hopefully, these children are not still being breast-fed. Dunkin' Donuts lists nutrition facts for their lattes and the only two ingredients are milk and coffee. Interestingly, there are 10 grams of sugar per serving.  That is a lot of sugar, 2 1/2 teaspoons to be exact.  Is all that sugar really just milk sugar?  I don't think so.  Makes me doubt the accuracy of mega- corporation labeling strategies.

If America is really running on Dunkin', I am running away!

The news on coffee is less than favorable, yet we are a nation of coffee addicts, and Dunkin' Donuts is capitalizing on our weakness!  And they still use styrofoam!!

Sweet Potato Soup (Raw)

Tried this soup recipe last night and it was soooo good I might make it again tonight!  Thanks to Joe Lucier (Raw New England Newletter) for this version:

Sweet Potato and Corn Chowder

2 C peeled sweet potato
1 avocado
1 TBS Braggs or Nama Shoyu (I do not use either of these...soy is not a good choice and neither is glutamate...I sub with Yacon syrup)
1 small knob ginger fine chopped, peeled
1/4 C scallions
Dash Celtic Sea Salt, Fresh ground pepper
1 C water
2 C fresh corn ( or frozen, thawed organic)
Place all ingredients except corn in blender and blend until smooth.  Spoon into bowls and top with corn.  Delicious!

Sweet potatoes are packed with nutrients!

Processed People

Fast food nation, eating on the run, eating from packages.  We are processed people.  We consume pounds of chemicals, preservatives, pesticides and refined foods in the Standard American Diet.  And then there are antibiotics, hormones, GMO's and E.Coli.  Long range studies of the effects on health from consuming these toxins are still being conducted, but, really, can it be anything less than catastrophic????

Michael Pollan has this to say:

And if Michael Pollan isn't convincing enough...watch "Processed People".....it is startling.
